Will AI love companions lead to a demographic implosion? I predict the opposite. AI will lead us to have more children. Here is how: AI and robotics will significantly lower the cost of having kids. Robots will be able to handle the not-so-fun logistics of caring for them (from pregnancy to cooking their food), thus enabling parents to have more kids and invest more quality time with them. Taking this further, we may head to a society where being a single parent is the norm. You may not even need to have an egg or sperm donor, but take your DNA, tweak it, and clone yourself with the latest brain-computer interface available in the market. We may not like the idea because we are not used to it, but I'm sure our predecessors wouldn't like many aspects of our modern lifestyle that we take for granted.
